Gas Pressure-Temperature

Lesson Description:

What happens to pressure when you heat a gas? This experiment investigates the effect of heat on the pressure of a gas. The gas is held in a 0.5-liter brass sphere connected to a pressure gauge.
The video will show the gauge at intervals of 4 degrees Celsius. You will take data on the position of the gauge pointer; the graph will show pressure (in pascals) plotted against temperature (in Celsius degrees).

Consider what a straight line would mean as well as lines that curve upward or downward. Also, see what differences if any can be attributed to changing the gas.Some analog measurements are listed below.

Length: meter stick
Mass: triple-beam balance
Force: spring scale
Temperature: thermometer
Volume: graduated cylinder
In this lab, you'll measure distance, mass, temperature, force, and volume.

Any measurement consists of two parts:
the value and
the units.

If you report a length as being 1.7, no one will know whether it's the size of a bacterium or a continent. Don't leave out the units.

Accuracy tells how good your measuring device is.
Does it measure correctly?

Precision is all about repeating measurements and getting the same value.
Try to measure the height of someone who won't stand still.
